How to Tune a Guitar to Standard Pitch
Standard tuning for six-string guitars arranges notes in ascending fourths with a major third between strings 3 and 2: E2 - A2 - D3 - G3 - B3 - E4. Listen for Beats
When two notes are slightly out of tune, you will hear an oscillating "wobble" or wave pulsation. As you tighten or loosen the peg, the wobble slows down until the sound becomes completely smooth.
Tune Up, Not Down
Always tune up into pitch to keep string tension tight against the tuning gear. If a string is sharp, drop it below pitch first, then slowly tighten up to the pitch.
